From Joan Kumi, Cape Coast
A heartwarming act of generosity has brought relief to Enoch Eshun, a Level 100 student at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), who has lived with a challenging medical condition for the past five years.
Eshun, who is unable to sit due to his condition, has received a brand-new Hyundai Tucson-2019 from Mr. Yaw Amponsah Marfo, a philanthropist who was deeply moved by Eshun’s story.
Eshun’s plight gained public attention after an interview he granted to Zion Felix, a popular media personality.
During the interview, Eshun revealed that for the past five years, he has been unable to sit, forcing him to stand at all times. He explained that whenever he needs to sleep, his cousin has to assist him in lying down.
He further disclosed that his inability to sit makes transportation a major challenge, as he cannot use public transport. Instead, he relies on expensive private drop-ins because he has to lie down in the car while being transported to lectures and other engagements.
Touched by Eshun’s resilience and the struggles he endures daily, Mr. Marfo decided to step in and offer support. He donated a Hyundai Tucson to Eshun, ensuring that he has a convenient and comfortable means of transportation that suits his condition.
Additionally, Mr. Marfo extended his generosity to Eshun’s mother, Madam Cecilia Enu, by giving her GHS 20,000 to support her trading business. The financial support is intended to help her sustain herself and also cover fuel costs for Eshun’s new vehicle. In response to this overwhelming act of kindness, Eshun expressed his heartfelt gratitude, describing the gift as a life-changing gesture.
With deep emotions, he acknowledged Mr. Marfo’s kindness and also thanked the many individuals who have reached out to encourage and support him financially.
He emphasized that he never intended to seek donations when he shared his story but rather wanted to inspire people facing similar challenges. However, he is grateful for the overwhelming support he has received from Ghanaians.
Madam Cecilia Enu also expressed her profound appreciation to Mr. Marfo for his immense generosity.
She further used the opportunity to appeal to the public for medical assistance for her son. She revealed that Eshun was born healthy but developed complications after a boil appeared on his body when he was two years old. Since then, his condition has deteriorated, affecting his mobility and overall quality of life.
She pleaded for medical experts and well-wishers to come to their aid in the hope of securing treatment that could restore Eshun’s health. Eshun’s story has sparked nationwide empathy, with many individuals reaching out to offer support in various ways. His journey of resilience continues to inspire, shedding light on the need for inclusive support systems for individuals facing similar health challenges.
As the public response grows, there is hope that Eshun will receive the medical intervention he needs to regain his normal life.
